Multiple Security Options

Southern Company Employees

By default, when you create a site only Southern Company employees can see your site. When someone navigates to your site for the first time they will be required to login. Once logged in if the user is a Southern Company employee they will see your site. If they are not a Southern Company employee they will see an Access Denied page.

If you want to keep this level of security but wish for a number of non-Southern Company employees to be able to view your site you can do so by granting them permission to view your site.

Public Site

If you have the need, MOBI can allow your site to be made public. This means that when a user navigates to your site they will not have to login to see the content. An example of where this might be useful is if your site displays content that needs to be viewable by senators, congressmen, or other politicians who aren't guaranteed to have the credentials to login. To request that your site be made public follow the steps below:

1. On the MOBI home (My Sites) page, select your site.

2. Click the properties link in the header. This will redirect you to the site properties page.

3. At the bottom of the site properties page you should see a button to Request that your site be made public. Click the Request button.

4. A popup will open to ask you to confirm that you really have need for a public site. If you don't need your site to be made public select No and the popup will close. If your site needs to be made public click Yes.

An email will be sent to your manager so that they can validate that you really do need your site to be made public. If they follow the link, login to MOBI, and click Approve in the header, another email will be sent to a MOBI admin who will contact you to discuss your request. Once they approve your request you should receive an email notifying you that the site has been made public.

You can test that your site is public by logging out and attempting to view your site. You should also notice that in the site properties page you will now see a toggle next to the Public Site field at the bottom of the page. If at any time you no longer need your site to remain public, you can toggle it off there.

Secure Site

You can restrict access to your site to only a list of users by making your site a secure site. To make your site secure follow the steps below:

1. On the MOBI home (My Sites) page, select your site.

2. Click the properties link in the header. This will redirect you to the site properties page.

3. If the Allow Security option is set to Off toggle it to On.

4. Once Allow Security is set to On you should see another toggle for Secure Site. Toggle Secure Site to On.

Once your site is made secure only users who you have granted access to view your site can view any page on your site. When a user navigates to your site they will be prompted to login. If you have granted them access to view your site they will see the site. If you have not granted them access to view your site they will see an Access Denied page.

Secure Page

You can secure a page within or without a secure site. If you choose not to make your site secure you can still secure a specific page. The rest of your site would maintain whatever security you set for your site (Southern Company Employees, Public, Secure).

Secure Page - Southern Company Employees Site

Let's say you create a site with default security named Site1. This means by default only Southern Company employees can view your site.

When you create Site1 MOBI creates the Home page for you. If a user navigates to http://mobi.southernco.com/Site1 they will be prompted to login. Once they are logged in if they are a Southern Company employee they will see your Home page. If they are not a Southern Company employee they will see an Access Denied page.

Next, you create a page named Page1 and you make it secure. Let's say that another user who isn't logged in navigates to http://mobi.southernco.com/Site1/Page1. They will be prompted to login. Once logged in if you have given them access to view Page1 they will see the page. If you haven't given them access to view Page1, even if they are a Southern Company employee, they will see an Access Denied page.

Secure Page - Public Site

Let's say you create a site named Site1. You then go through the necessary steps outlined above to make your site public.

When you create Site1 MOBI creates the Home page for you. If a user navigates to http://mobi.southernco.com/Site1 they will see your Home page without having to login because your site is public.

Next, you create a page named Page1 and you make it secure. That same non-logged in user navigates to http://mobi.southernco.com/Site1/Page1. They will be prompted to login. Once logged in if you have given them access to view Page1 they will see the page. If you haven't given them access to view Page1, even if though the site is public, they will see an Access Denied page since the page is secure.

Once logged in if you have given them access to view Page1 AND access to see your site, then they will see the page. If you haven't given them access to view Page1 or if you haven't given them access to view your site they will see an Access Denied page.
