106 - Job Safety Briefing

NOTE: Job aids, such as plastic cards worn with the employee badge, may be used to conduct the pre-job brief.

  1. At the beginning of each job a Job Safety Briefing (JSB) shall be performed. This is performed as a part of the Task Preview and will be covered again if a PJB is required. This process is designed to help you work safely by including as a minimum:
    • Review of procedure/isolation and control of all energy sources/tasks to be performed
    • Critical activities
    • Review hazards to employee safety, plant safety, and reliability
    • ALARA concerns
    • Personnel safety concerns, including PPE and safe work practices
    • Coordination of activities with other work groups
    • Contingency actions for unexpected condition
    • Compensatory measures for critical steps
  2. Safety issues identified in Operational Risk Assessments (ORAs) shall be used in pre-job briefs associated with the assessed task. A Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) will be performed for all personnel safety high-risk activities identified by the ORA process. If a JHA has been completed for the task, it shall be used in the pre-job brief process to identify hazards and protective measures.
  3. When changes occur during the job, a new pre-job brief shall be performed.
