400 - Eye and Face Protection
- ANSI Z87.1approved safety eyewear and side protection, including corrective lens safety glasses, shall be worn when engaged in or directly exposed to the industrial work process and for all jobs where a hardhat is required.
- Workers needing reading glasses shall wear the appropriate type safety eyewear. Removing safety glasses to use reading glasses in the industrial work area will not provide appropriate protection.
- You shall use safety eyewear when, based on your or your supervisor’s judgement, a potential for eye injury exists. Safety eyewear shall be worn while in or on any moving vehicle without a front windshield.
- Safety eyewear shall not be altered, modified, or used in any manner that would decrease the degree of protection that the eyewear was initially designed to provide.
- Safety eyewear shall be inspected for defects before each use. Defective or damaged safety eyewear shall be replaced, and defective eyewear shall be discarded.
- Tinted, mirrored, or hybrid-type lenses (dark on top and clear on bottom), including side shields, shall not be worn indoors unless approved by Medical and FFD Services.
- You may wear contact lenses provided they do not create an added potential for eye injury.
- You may wear transition lenses, which are defined as lenses that change the level of tint based on light conditions, if approved by your supervisor.
