406 - Fall Prevention/Protection
NOTE: See
paragraph 209 for requirements for guarding of open-sided permanent floors and permanent
platforms four feet or more above an adjacent floor or ground level and the
requirement for wearing fall protection when not guarded.
- Fall prevention methods shall be used when working at heights where there is a fall potential of more than four feet, which is measured from the work surface to the next lower level.
- Employees required to work at heights shall be trained on fall prevention methods.
- Fall protection equipment shall be inspected by the user before each use. Equipment found to be degraded, damaged, or missing the manufacturer’s tag or the annual inspection tag/marking shall be immediately removed from service.
- Fall protection equipment shall be stored in a clean, dry area free of exposure to any corrosive substance, heat, or manner that could degrade the equipment.
- The weight limit of the personal fall arrest system shall not be exceeded.
- At the end of the task, clean the equipment, if needed, and return the fall protection to its designated storage location.
