509 - Machine Guarding
- All rotating
equipment shall be guarded by an appropriate machine guard or by location.
“Guarded by location” means the equipment is not accessible to employees while
in operation.
NOTE: Projecting sha feet ends shall present a smooth edge and end and shall not project more than one-half the diameter of the sha feet unless guarded by nonrotating caps or safety sleeves. - Mechanical guards shall be removed only for required maintenance or testing.
- Guards shall not be removed until the machine/equipment has been removed from service, made inoperative, and properly tagged and/or locked out of service.
