800 - Asbestos-Containing Materials
- Refer to NMP-FLS-006 Asbestos and its instructions for additional information.
- Asbestos may be found in insulation, cement-asbestos fill sheets (cooling tower splashboards), vehicle brake linings, and some types of valve packing. Safe work practices for the handling, removal, and/or disposal of substances containing asbestos are outlined in NMP-FLS-006. OSHA and EPA regulations and/or guidelines shall be complied.
- The use of asbestos-containing materials shall be avoided whenever feasible. The availability of substitutes for asbestos-containing materials shall be investigated prior to using an asbestos-containing material.
- Only trained employees shall be allowed to work with asbestos-containing materials.
