809 - Lead
- Lead may be found in certain applied coatings and in temporary shielding materials. Exposure may occur during the demolition or salvage of structures, during routine maintenance activities, and during installation or removal of temporary shielding.
- Workers must be trained on proper work practices prior to disturbing lead-containing materials that could cause exposure.
- Wet methods and vacuum-assisted tools shall be used to prevent lead-containing dust from becoming airborne.
- Refer to procedures for the proper handling of temporary lead shielding, lead ammunition, and coatings that contain lead.
- Contact the site safety coordinator prior to disturbing bare lead shielding that would result in an exposure.
- Refer to NMP-FLS-011 Safety Handling of Lead for additional information.
