811 - Live Steam
- Live steam may create a very hazardous environment. Based on the temperature, the steam may be invisible. Water or steam released from pressurized systems can easily penetrate clothing and skin.
- When a steam leak is suspected, approach the location with caution. If the leak is invisible, use a piece of cardboard or similar material to locate the direction of the leak. Maintain a significant distance between any part of the body and the suspected leak area.
- Secure the area of a live steam leak. Ensure workers are aware of the hazard. Barricade per Section 206.
