Dropped Objects Prevention
- Refer to NMP-FLS-021 Dropped Objects Prevention for additional information related to dropped objects.
- Employees shall be provided protection from hand tools, debris, and any other small objects falling from scaffolds or elevated working surfaces (fixed and portable) through the installation guardrail systems that can include toe boards, screens, or through the erection of debris nets, catch platforms, or canopy structures that contain or deflect the falling objects.
- When falling objects are too large, heavy, or massive to be contained or deflected by any of the above-listed measures, place potential falling objects away from the edge of the surface from which they could fall and secure those materials as necessary to prevent their falling.
- When using tools outside of the handrails of elevated work surfaces and scaffolds, such as on ladders, a tool/equipment lanyard shall be used, or the potential drop zone controlled to prevent access by others.
- Workers shall not carry tools or materials in hands while climbing. Tools and materials shall be raised and lowered with tool conveyance, such as tool bags.
